File Hash & Checksum Generator

Calculate SHA-256, SHA-384 or SHA-512 for text and local files, compare an expected checksum, and download the result without uploading your data.

Your data stays in your browser. No sign-in required.

Input

UTF-8 encoding. Spaces, newlines and Unicode characters affect the checksum.

Checksum

Generate a checksum to see it here.

Spaces and letter case are ignored during comparison.

How to use this tool

  1. Choose Text hash or File checksum, then enter text or select a file.
  2. Select SHA-256, SHA-384 or SHA-512 and generate the checksum. For files over 64 MiB, review the memory notice first.
  3. Paste a trusted expected checksum to compare it. Copy or download the result, or reset to clear the input and cancel processing.

Privacy

Your entries and files are processed on your device. They are not uploaded, added to this page’s URL, saved in browser storage, or included in analytics. Reset clears this tool’s working state.

Frequently asked questions

Is my file uploaded?

No. Browser Web Crypto computes the digest in a worker on your device. Reset and leaving the page terminate the worker and release file references.

How large can files be?

Files up to 512 MiB are accepted. Web Crypto requires the complete file in memory, so temporary memory use can exceed the file size. Files above 64 MiB need acknowledgment; devices with limited memory may still fail safely.

What does a matching checksum prove?

It shows that the input matches the bytes represented by the expected checksum. Use an expected checksum from a trusted source. A hash alone does not establish who created a file. Text uses UTF-8, including whitespace and line endings.
